I. Desire To Quit
Gotta-wanna! Its most important to state ... you gotta wanna quit smoking. You can't do it to please anyone other than yourself. When you are ready to drop the habit of smoking and get on with your life smoke-free, you will do it. And, it will stick. You won't pick up the habit again.
This workshop is designed to support your decision to quit smoking, for once and for all. No claims are made other than ... you gotta wanna quit, and if you wanna quit, this will help you. Honest injun! I know ... because I quit and it was the most difficult habit I have ever released.
II. Benefits To Quitting
Save Money - $2000 to $4000 a year!
Use this money to --- go on vacation; redecorate your home; down payment on a bike, or a car. Buy roller blades, skis, a bicycle, a tent. Increase your wardrobe. Start an education fund for your children or grandchildren. Pay off credit cards.
Save Time - how many times during a project have you stopped to smoke a cigarette?
Without being a slave to smoking, all of your projects will be finished quicker! Need a break? Take a juice or water break, instead!
Restoration of Health - Every cigarette smoked is 10 minutes off your life.
Every pack is 200 minutes or 3 ½ hours off your life.
Every carton = 2000 minutes or 1 ½ days.
For every year you continue to smoke, you shorten your life by 156 days. Ten years of smoking shortens your life by 1560 days - that's more than 4 years!
HOWEVER....the moment you cease smoking - the benefits can begin. Within hours of your last cigarette, your blood pressure begins to stabilize and your heart rate begins to return to normal.
Within one week of smoking cessation, your lungs begin to rejuvenate.
Within one month, your lungs begin to clear of tar and cilia return to active state.
Within one year, most body functions return to their normal, pre-smoking state.
III. Hints on How Not To Gain Weight
... Eat Fruit ... lots of it.
Apples are excellent - chew the skin!
Eat grapes, too and thoroughly chew the skins.
Drink 8 glasses of water a day.
Eat high carbs to counterbalance nicotine loss.
Eliminate white sugar from your diet ... nicotine counteracts the effects of white sugar, so many smokers don't even realize that besides a nicotine habit, they have developed a sugar habit as well. If you continue to eat sweets after you quit smoking, you will gain weight ... a lot of weight!
Exercise. Exercise. And, more exercise!
Take Vitamin and Mineral Supplements.
Diet for a Non-Smoker:
Increase Alkaline Foods: Fruits Figs Green veggies Carrots Vegetables Raisins Lima beans Celery Millet Almonds
Reduce Acid Foods: Meat Beef Sugar Chicken Wheat Eggs Bread Milk Baked Goods Cheese
**Hint - take 5-6 sodium bicarbonate or potassium bicarbonate tablets a day to help reduce and eradicate cravings.
**Hint - Consumption of raw foods reduces cravings and interest in smoking, due to increase in blood alkalinity.
Eat low fat foods - sprouts, grains, legumes, green veggies, carrots, fruits, and drink lots of water, juice, soups, herbal teas.
Snack on seeds and nuts - pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds are easy to buy and easy to carry!
Cravings ... How to handle them:
1. Take a deep breath - in your nose, out your mouth. Then, take another, and another, and another, until the craving passes;
2. Drink a full glass of water;
3. Take 1 gram of Vitamin C, up to 12 grams a day.
4. Take 1 sodium bicarbonate tablet, up to 5 - 6 a day.
IV. Changes in Body - after you quit.
Metabolism shifts.
This is the main reason people tend to gain weight. Because nicotine burns up sugar in the system, the tendency is not to gain weight when you smoke. However, when you quit smoking, and remove the nicotine source - the sugar is not burned off.
Without exercise, sugar turns to fat. Within a few months after quitting smoking, you may notice extra pounds. In fact, your craving for sweets may increase. You may feel sluggish and easily fatigued. Also, you may experience unpleasant side effects, such as flatulence and bowel changes. These symptoms are largely due to a shift in your metabolism caused by the withdrawal of nicotine from the system. But ... it doesn't have to be this way.
To solidify your resolve to quit smoking for life, it is important to detoxify the body from all traces of nicotine, while fortifying the system with nutritional supplements, good diet, lots of exercise and self-love.
V. Positive Affirmations and Visualizations
Don't underestimate the power of positive affirmations and visualizations to help you quit smoking for life.
Every morning, look yourself in the eye in the mirror and tell yourself you deserve good health.
Say it. See it. Feel it. Believe it.
It might feel a little strange at first to do this, but persevere and do it anyway!
Say the words ... I DESERVE GOOD HEALTH.
Smile at your mirror image!
After a few times, it won't feel so weird, and soon, the words will come easily to you ... you will feel it in your heart! You will believe it. You do deserve good health.
Here are some positive affirmations you can say to yourself:
I am a non-smoker
Not smoking is a great benefit to my health.
My sense of smell will return.
My sense of taste will return.
My good health is most important.
I live a healthy lifestyle.
I am a permanent non-smoker.
It is easy for me to be a non-smoker.
I have no desire to smoke cigarettes.
I desire to remain smoke-free.
Smoking is repulsive to me.
I am proud of myself for being a non-smoker.
I feel good about not smoking.
I no longer have a need to smoke.
I love myself as a non-smoker.
I am completely at ease with myself as a non-smoker.
I do not need to smoke.
I see myself as a permanent non-smoker
I am welcomed everywhere I go as a non-smoker.
Visualize yourself jogging, running effortlessly along the beach or hiking (without wheezing) up a mountain trail.
See yourself performing fun activities without tiring - roller blading with your children, playing tennis with your neighbor or bicycle riding. Feel your muscles and organs respond positively to each action your perform.
Don't be afraid to visualize a new you! It's your visualization - go for it! If you can think it, it can happen!
VI. Negative Affirmations/Visualizations
Negative affirmations and visualizations actually work in a positive way, when trying to rid yourself of the smoking habit. Here are some nasty things to do and think about if you feel the urge to smoke ...
Imagine the sight of an overflowing, stinky, smelly ashtray, filled past capacity with crushed out cigarette butts and ashes. Think about licking the inside of the dirty ashtray. Imagine the graininess and the harsh, sharp bitter taste of the ashes. Imagine chewing a handful of spent cigarettes? How revolting!
Picture a spent cigarette filter - all brown, yellow and tarry. Imagine the color of your beautiful pink lungs after smoking 10 cigarettes, or a carton! It is frightening to think how awful your lungs might look! Ugh!
Save up all your old, spent cigarette butts and ashes...place them in an old coffee can. When you get the urge to smoke, open up the coffee can and take a whiff .... now, do you REALLY want that cigarette???
Try emptying an ashtray into a freezer bag and bringing it with you everywhere you go ... if you get the urge, give it a sniff. Positively repulsive!
Tips and Hints:
Cut out other associated addictive substances such as caffeine, sweets and alcohol.
Find a quitting partner or non-smoker for support.
Go Public. Tell all your friends and family what you plan to do and tell them that you need their support with your efforts.
Stay Busy. Keep your mind off the habit.
Chew cloves, licorice or anise seeds to satisfy oral fixation.
Utilize water therapy - swim in it, shower in it, bathe in it, relax in it, drink it !
Practice your visualizations and positive affirmations.
Begin positive health treatments - acupuncture, shiatsu, massage, dental cleaning to remove tobacco stains, yoga, colonic hydrotherapy, aerobic dancing, calisthenics, walking, power walking, jogging, swimming, tennis, golf, weightlifting.
Get plenty of rest.
Exercise regularly to decrease withdrawal symptoms.
Maintain a positive attitude. You CAN do it. Pat yourself on the back. This is a major life-changing decision and deserves recognition. Think about all the benefits - money saved, time saved, you will regain control of your life and release a negative habit, you will smell good, you will see more clearly (no haze!), you will increase your lifespan, you will slow down the aging process, you will have more energy.

For the first 5 days, it may be helpful to take the following:
3 - 6 garlic capsules per day - cleanses the blood, lowers blood pressure
4 - 6 Valerian Root powder capsules per day - calms and soothes the smoking urge

Also, Vitamin C is extremely important in ridding the body of tars, nicotine and oxidizing compounds that have been accumulating in the body. Smoking depletes the body of Vitamin C. Dr. Linus Pauling's studies over a 30 year period have proven that Vitamin C is not harmful, even at levels of up to 15 grams per day. It is suggested to take up to 12 grams a day to detoxify the body, and 3 to 5 grams a day for maintenance after detoxification.
A simple smoker's nutrient plan would include:
5000 mg of Vitamin C,
25,000 IU of Beta-Carotene,
10,000 IU of Vitamin A,
30 mg of Zinc,
200 mcg of Selenium and
400 IU of Vitamin E.
This formulation is excellent for the non-smoker after detoxification. If all of this sounds overwhelming, here is my suggested VITAMIN POWER® No Smoking Plan, including essential aids in detoxifying the body of nicotine and helping to regenerate healthy, living tissue:

The decision to stop smoking changes our entire relationship with ourselves. When we decide to make this change, take this step, we are making a positive change for ourselves. We are loving ourselves, nurturing ourselves - something that may seem very difficult for us to do at first. But, it isn't difficult at all once you make the decision. It is a vote of confidence in our own happy, healthy future!
If we want good health and vitality, we simply cannot smoke!
Usually, the first 12-24 hours are the hardest. After 24 hours, our bodies begin to readjust, although withdrawal symptoms may persist, such as headaches, anxiety, irritability, dizziness, insomnia, drowsiness, heart palpitations, depression, nausea, vomiting, cramps, diarrhea and/or constipation. Using the helpful dietary hints and nutrient supplements suggested in this workshop will help allay all or most of these secondary symptoms.
Within 24 hours of smoking your last cigarette, your blood pressure returns to normal, your pulse rate returns to normal, your temperature returns to normal, your oxygen level increases and your carbon monoxide level decreases. Your heart attack risk decreases dramatically.
Within 3 days of quitting, your bronchial tubes relax, your lung capacity increases and your ability to taste and smell becomes more pronounced.
Within one month, your circulation improves greatly and your lung power increases. In three to six months, sinus congestion, fatigue and coughing decreases, while your energy level naturally increases.
Within one year, your chance of getting lung cancer greatly decreases, as your body begins to regenerate healthy lung tissue.
The benefits of being a permanent non-smoker for life are apparent from the moment you make that choice to quit!
Quit Smoking For Life! Its a gift to yourself.
