Astoria, OR and Vicinity The city of Astoria, OR sits perched at the culmination of the Columbia River where it enters the Pacific Ocean. The city was named after John Jacob Astor, a New York financier, who established a trading post at the mouth of the Columbia River five years after the Lewis and Clark expedition left the area in 1806. Astoria is bathed in victorian history, its steep, hilly streets adorned with a generous mosaic of regal homes some of which have been used for the backdrop of a number of Hollywood movies, most notably, the cult classic "The Goonies." Is the Astoria area haunted? Here are our photographs and paranormal investigative report:
Date(s): July 14, 2007 Location: In Oregon - Astoria, Seaside, The Dalles Weather Conditions: Clear, cool, low humidity Site Properties: Well established city atmosphere located at mouth of Columbia River. Area contains numerous older victorian homes, most set on steep hillside streets. From some locations we had a clear view of Pacific Ocean. Investigators: Astoria and Dolphyn Preliminary Investigation:. Driving in to Astoria, we were struck by the area's colloquial ambiance and energy. We drove the hilly streets and stopped at different locations to get a feel for the energies in the area. We felt drawm to the Flavell House Museum, but felt more energy at the original Flavell House which has since fallen into disrepair. Many of the older victorian homes put out a lot of energy ... "If walls could talk" we know they would have a lot to say. Fort Clatsop, nearby Astoria, is where the Lewis & Clark Expedition wintered in 1806 before returning to Missouri. One can't help but feel the energies of those who have lingered here. In fact, the entire area, from The Dalles to Cannon Beach is heady with the essence of historical people who have toiled the region. Although we recognized negative energies from time to time, we released all negativity and embraced the positive elements which were so apparent.
FINDINGS: We encountered a number of entities during our investigation of the Astoria area. At one point during our investigation at a cafe in Seaside, OR, Astoria (who, by the way received her name in honor of this beloved city) 'heard' a being speaking to her, explaining itself by saying that it didn't want to scare anyone and that it only wanted money! We acknowledged its presence and left dollars and change to satisfy its need, but cautioned the being that it could not come with us and had to remain where we found it. Before leaving, we blessed the being in silent prayer. We were very interested in the expedition of Lewis & Clark and stopped at The Dalles, Fort Dalles Museum and the Pioneer Cemetery at The Dalles. These rugged folks traveled from Missouri through some very harsh countryside and mountainous areas at the bequest of President Thomas Jeffereson to map a trail through the Louisiana Purchase to the Pacific Coast. The energy in this area is incredible. We met an interesting being at the Pioneer Cemetery, this very vocal black kitty who seemed to appear out of nowhere. He greeted us and then seemed to want to lead us around the cemetery, stopping at different graves and markers. We followed him and took pictures .. and then he graced us with love and head rubs. When he was through (so were we), he turned and walked off! We seem to meet a lot of cats during our investigations. On a few occasions in Astoria city we felt the cool presence of ectoplasm and two of our photographs show the expression of this ethereal substance. When we encounterd the 'feel' of ectoplasm we immediately blessed its presence, took the photographs and thanked the beings for allowing us to enter their space. After all, we were the interlopers. The presence of Orbs Beings were felt on a higher level and a number of them were indeed captured by our digital cameras. Some energy beings shied away from us, while others came right out as if to greet us. Some may have been the essences of past lives of those who lived in the beautiful homes we photographed, while others may have been nature energies; we felt a mixture of both. There was a certain strangeness in and around the area where the movie, The Goonies, was filmed. The house is occupied by private citizens who evidently are aware of the house's cult status. There is a sign which says .. "Private Drive. Park below and Walk Up," more or less in recognition of fan's pilgrimages. We didnt' wish to encroach on the owner's space, so we quietly took a few pictures of the grounds in front of the house and were rewarded with a number of Orbs -- the energy still resides at the house! The Astoria area is rich in paranormal entities -- with mixed energies. both positive and negative. Our focus was on observation and not contact. Our investigation was not so much to connect with any entities that inhabit the area, but rather to observe, photograph, bless who or what we encounted and leave. That is exactly what we did !
