Winchester Mystery Mansion, It all began in 1884 when eccentric Winchester heiress, Sarah L. Winchester started a house construction project that lasted for thirty-eight continuous years, cost over $5.5 million dollars, and rambled across 4 acres of land in downtown San Jose. The Winchester "House" is huge, contains 160 rooms and has quite a lot of quirks and unusual nuances that have flabbergasted paranormal investigators, psychics and tourists throughout the years. Mrs. Winchester herself was a true believer in the psychic arts, even had a special room in the home designated as "The Seance Room." Her superstitious nature lead her on her thirty-eight year quest of construction -- because she believed that she would continue to live as long as she kept building! The lure of the Winchester Mystery Mansion was too great for us to ignore while we were in San Jose --- so off we went to explore and investigate this beautiful yet .. odd house and property. Here is our investigation.
Date(s): August 27, 2007 Location: San Jose, CA Weather Conditions: Sunny, clear, warm, low humidity Site Properties: Unusually large, four acre park-like property in heart of San Jose, CA. Well maintained grounds and incredibly unusual 160 room mansion. This location is a popular tourist attraction in downtown San Jose and was very active the day we visited. Investigators: Dolphyn and Astoria Preliminary Investigation:. We just couldn't wait to investigate the Winchester Mystery House after hearing so much about Sarah Winchester, her idiosyncrasies and eccentricities, and the fact that she was totally enthralled with her 'spirits'. We felt that for certain, this house would be filled with unusual entities, and perhaps even the energy of the previous owner herself. Sarah Winchester was heir to the Winchester millions and had been told by a psychic that she was haunted by the spirits of the thousands of people who had been killed through the use of Winchester arms (such as the famous Winchester Repeating Rifle featured in the Hollywood series "The Rifleman"). Sarah indeed believed that she was cursed. Her daughter Annie died in 1866 followed by her husband, William in 1881 which she attributed to these evil spirits. Sarah was told to move west and build a home for these 'fallen' spirits and that as long as construction continued, she would live. Sarah Winchester moved from New Haven, CT to San Jose, CA and construction began. Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, contractors and craftsmen worked on Sarah's mansion -- for Thirty-eight years. Sadly, Sarah died in September, 1922 in her incredible home and .. construction ceased. FINDINGS: Haunted or not, the Winchester Mystery House is a fantastic place to visit. However, we were definitely struck by many different energies while touring the house. We took numerous photographs -- some with flash, some without. We captured numerous orbs, light and energies without the camera flash, which are presented on this page. Is the Winchester House haunted? We believe that Sarah's spirit and those of the many who have worked and toiled there may still roam this incredible place. We did not feel negative energy, as foretold by the medium that advised Sarah Winchester, but we did feel a protective energy in the air, particularly in the areas of the home that had been damaged by earthquakes over the years. Our visit was during the daylight hours ... and we were able to capture energy beings, orbs and light anomalies. The Winchester House offers special night time flashlight tours every Friday the 13th and also on Halloween. What a terrific time to commune with the residual energies at The Winchester House !
