Lunar / Sun Day Sermon

Finding the Peace Within
Sunday, November 11, 2007

Greetings One and All ....

Peacefulness of heart is considerably tougher to acquire in these froughtful days of change.  Where once we felt peace, we may now feel dissatisfaction, or fear brought on by woeful reports of earth changes, governmental hypocrisy here and abroad, increased violent weather patterns and so on.

We can yet find that still place within that quiets the savage beast that beats upon our emotional door by taking all our worries, placing them in an imaginary basket and setting them free down a meandering river of tranquilty.  Nice thought !  And a spiritual exercise that works.

Spiritual support may come from some unexpected places, such as a song on the radio, or an email post.  At times of hardship, even a kindly smile from a stranger bids us to reconnect with our sacred place of peace and harmony.  One only must look to find the multiple gifts that surround us every day.

Looking out at life from our safe perch offers a diversity of rhyme and reason that eventually leads us to arrive at all is truly as it should be, even in the most difficult of situations.

People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within.
Ramona L. Anderson

I read a post the other day written by a young mother of three children which spoke of sadness and grief of losing both her parents to illness and dis-ease a few years back.  In her present situation, she found herself married to a man who was following in the footsteps of her late father, consumed by addiction to alcohol, which has caused her more grief.

This spunky gal was not sitting back wringing her hands in dismay, she was out there looking to utilize her short but intense life's experiences to reach out and help others who ache and hurt from their lot in life.  I so admire her for the ability to rise above the mundane and seek peace and harmony through giving of herself to others.  She exhibited true balance in motion from compassionate selfless love of others who may suffer similarly.

No amount of malice or rancor can bind us to that which we do not feel from within.  A willing heart will find its solace as it marches onward to the beat of its own drum.   And, so it is .. the continuance of man's search to reach a peaceful place, when that peaceful place is squarely contained within the Soul of man.

Man is equally incapable of seeing the nothingness from which he emerges and the infinity in which he is engulfed.
Blaise Pascal

Miracles abound.  One only needs to look and see the wonder of creation in all that surrounds us - the trusting smile of an infant, the gentle embrace of a beloved partner, the bursting forth of an awaited bloom of a seed gently planted in a tub of soil.  All miracles in their own right.  All surrounding us with love and light of the Creator.  We hold this energy in our heart center which we may, at will, disburse at any given moment as we so choose.

If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.  Buddha

Peace of heart comes from understanding that we are not separate from our spiritual selves, that we are spiritual beings who are immersed in a physical form, yet ultimately we are one with the Creator Source.  Through this physical life, we have the opportunity to meet a multitude of beings who may look different, speak a different language, follow a different religious or spiritual path.  But, through the eyes of the Creator Source, we are the same.  Try to imagine seeing each other through the eyes of God the Creator, and we may reach a common understanding that from the big picture, we truly All Are One and our differences only make us more beautiful to each other.

One ship sails East,
And another West
By the self-same winds that blow,
Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

And with this short poem of unity, I close today's Lunar / Sun Day Sermon with my deepest wish that you find the peace and harmony that will soothe you in God's Love.

Warmly
