Greetings and welcome to "How To Use Crystals and Stones."

In this self-paced class we will be learning about quartz crystals, semi and precious stones, and minerals for the purpose of spiritual healing and metaphysical uses.

Quartz crystals, semi-precious, precious and minerals are of the earth. They are mined from deep in the earth, and often are found relatively close to the surface in the areas surrounding the mines known as gem fields. Gem fields are a result of rain and other surface activities that bring the minerals close to the surface over a wide range, or field.

More than likely, you will obtain your crystal or stones from a rock shop or a metaphysical shop, unless you are fortunate enough to visit or live near a mining area and have access to the tailings piles or dig area.

It is scientifically proven that crystals conduct energy. According to Edmund Harold in "Focus on Crystals": "The closer...crystal formations lie to the magnetic core of the planet, the greater their magnetic field. All quartz mined in areas such as Arkansas in the United States -- a region which is extremely close to that core -- emit powerful electromagnetic energies, and this area currently provides the purest quartz crystal known to mankind."

What Kind of Crystals Are There?

Most of the time when one speaks of 'crystals' they are usually referring to clear Quartz Crystals, a naturally occurring multiple sided, often geometrically shaped stone with a hardness of 7 on the Moh Scale. Crystals may be single terminated or double terminated, may have second crystal formations growing along side of them, may be in clusters, may have second crystals growing inside. We will explore the metaphysical meanings of these crystals and of other crystal formations as well, and how you may use them for healing and protection.

Programming and Clearing Crystals

Crystals can be programmed to hold thought forms and act as a 'thought magnet' so it is wise to be careful to only imbue them with positivity.

Programming a crystal takes concentration. You must first determine the purpose by thinking of the end result you wish to accomplish. Place the crystal at the Brow Chakra (Spiritual Third Eye) and close your eyes. Imagine you are inside your crystal and 'see' the end result actually occuring inside your crystal. Create the energy you wish to empower within your crystal. Using the power of imagination and visualization, use all your senses to make your vision perfectly clear - see it, feel it, taste it, smell it, touch it, be it. When your vision is complete and you feel satisfied with the end result, and return from inside your crystal. Open your eyes. You have successfully programmed your crystal for your purposes.

There are many ways to clear a crystal of negativity or simply to re-energize it.

• Place it in the sunshine for 12 to 24 hours
• Rinse it with running tap water
• Wash it in warm water with sea salt
• Take a shower and bathe with it

You may also clear your crystal of any negativity by holding it in your hand and repeating the Light Invocation three times: "I invoke the Light of the God within. I am a clear and perfect channel. Light is my guide." You may use the Light Invocation to clear crystals before you give them away to someone else, so that the crystal is clean and clear for their use.

Whether you program or clear your crystal, it is important to understand that above all else, respecting, appreciating and thanking your crystal because ... although we talk about 'using' crystals, what we are really doing is forming a relationship with them. We work with a crystal and it works with us - in a give and take relationship.

Metaphysical Properties

Quartz crystals have been widely recognized for their metaphysical attributes. Just as water has been known for its cleansing abilities, inside and outside, so are crystals - the relationship is not coincidental.

Quartz crystals manifest the unity of the four elements - Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

They grow deep in the Earth, light easily passes through them like AIR, they are electro-magnetically charged (Fire) and have the molecular structure of Water and an ice-like appearance.

They are used to magnify, focus, transmute and transfer energy. We see crystals in use everyday .. covering the faces of our wrist-watches, the lenses of our cameras, inside our televisions, radios, computers - the modern day use is astronomic. And, so is the metaphysical use.

Crystals have been used for eons and are not simply a 'new age' fad. Healers, shamans, and mystics have used natural crystal for its abilities to magnify, focus, transmute and transfer energy too - from the crystal itself to the human body, through the body's energy centers.

Types of Crystals and How To Work With Them

Abundance Crystals - mothering, protective crystal with a loving energy. This crystal has numerous tiny crystals at its base. Take this crystal to your Heart Chakra and ask for abundance in your life, be it love, joy, food, finances - whatever your need. Ask sincerely from your heart to the heart of the Abundance Crystal. Then return it to the earth from where it came. The act of reuniting the crystal to Mother Earth will work in unison with the Universe in granting your petition for Abundance. The act of gifting the crystal to the Earth is giving your love freely - sharing, and encouraging the act of abundance.

Channeling Crystals - All quartz crystals are channelling crystals. However, some folks like to use copper to facilitate the crystal's channeling activity. Copper wire is wrapped around the crystal, or the crystal may be placed in a copper bowl or dish to magnify the channelling. Channeling simply means that you are letting the crystal know that you are available as a pure, clear and open channel for the highest good and will serve the light in whatever way is needed. Then .. be still and listen. Let your crystal channel in the way that suits the good of the whole.

Crystal Clusters - Crystal Clusters are teaching crystals, teaching us to live in peace, unity and abide with love and sharing. Place a crystal cluster in your family room, or any place where people gather and program it for protection, peace, love and unity. You may also place a crystal cluster on any of your body's energy centers to help clear a blockage or dispel negativity. Also, crystal clusters are very helpful in quelling fears. You can carry a small cluster with you for protection when you travel to offer peace and tranquility.

Devic Crystals - Devic crystals are recognized by the amount of faerie frost they contain. Faerie frost is the clouding and fractures inside the crystal. Devic crystals are often used to communicate with the Earth Devas or Earth Sprites to assure them that we are caretakers of Mother Earth and work to protect her. Devic crystals are often gifted back to the earth in a quiet spot, in a hollow of a tree or crevice in a rock -- faerie doors to the inner earth -- and can be used to meditate in honor of Mother Earth. Devic crystals are also used to heal Mother Earth in this way.

Dolphin Crystals - A crystal that has a smaller crystal attached, like it is riding along, is commonly called a Dolphin Crystal because the smaller crystal appears to be a dolphin calf swimming along with its mother. Its been said that dolphins and crystals have a lot in common - both contain the highest form of consciousness. You can connect with dolphins through a dolphin crystal, asking for wisdom, gentility, loyalty, love and playfulness. Breathe your petition into the crystal, then listen for the dolphin's reply. Both dolphins and crystals are anxious to share their wisdom with us to help us protect, love and nurture all living things.

Double Terminated Crystals - a crystal that is naturally faceted at both ends is often referred to as a double terminated crystal. These are often used for healing and represent the ability of its energy to flow both ways at once. They act as bridges between the conscious and subconscious, and the physical and spiritual. Double terminated crystals are often used at the Brow Chakra, the spiritual third eye energy center to facilitate our intuitive selves and join the left and right brain hemispheres. They represent balance of self and can be worked with as a balancing tool.

Empathic Crystals - These crystals are the most needed healers in our world today. If all the world's pained worked with an empathic crystal, they could breathe away their pain into the crystal where it will be transformed into positive energy. You will recognize an empathic crystal by its look. It is not the perfectly clear, unblemished crystal, but rather the chipped, odd-shaped crystal, often with matrix still attached, that sings out to us in empathy for the world's ills, for our own ills.

ET Crystals - Extraterrestrial crystals have multiple terminations on one end and a single termination at the other end. These crystals a very good channeling crystals and are often used to channel the angelic realm, our guardian angels and guides. To communicate with your guides through an Extraterrestrial Crystal it is important to state your desire to communicate with positive entities and energies, that your intention is of light and love, and that you invite all sources of good and light to come forward. You can connect with the Earth's inner beings with an ET Crystal to assure these peaceful beings of your love and respect for Mother Earth and that you are a willing ligthworker. After you have conveyed your message to the crystal, be still and listen. Remember that your messages have to transcend space and time so listen closely and be patient.

Faden Crystal - This crystal has one or more white thread-like formations within the cyrstal, usually close to the middle caused by either fluid or gas during formation. Much like a Tabular Crystal, Fadens are a connection and communication crystal. Also has been useful in astral travel.

Self-Healed Crystals - Crystals that have been broken off on one end and then have regrown smaller terminations at the break. These crystals represent the regenerative quality of life teaching us to use our self-healing powers of renewal. They represent the cycle of birth, life and death, and help to ease transition - change.

Inner Child Crystals - You will notice an Inner Child Crystal right away because it will have a smaller crystal partially embedded within, growing outwardly. These crystals are wonderful healers for those of us who have had difficult childhoods, absentee parents, dysfunctional family ties, and abuse issues. The Inner Child Crystal helps us go back to our childhoods and remember the joy of discovery and exploration. Take your crystal to the beach, to the amusement park, the zoo, to any place that you enjoy and allow your crystal to share the wonder and joy with you. You may find your enjoyment rewarded tenfold when you share, by an increased feeling of well being and incomparable joy.

Lifepath Crystals - Smooth-sided crystals are known as Lifepath Crystals, particularly the long, thin, slender ones. They may have one or more sides that are smooth to the touch. Lifepath crystals work as guides to help you find your way in life, ride the tide and go with the flow. Breathe your intention to your crystal, and ask that you be guided to walk in peace and serve the highest good. You will feel encouraged and guided to walk the path of beauty, joy and greater good for all.

Generator Crystals - Generators are also known as Merlin Crystals, and used as highly concentrated energy blasters that put out powerful streams of energy to the Universe. Generator crystals are single terminated and have six facets that form a sharp, undamaged point. They work great with other crystals or stones and can be used to help direct energy of a crystal that has a damaged point. You can harness this powerful energy for healing by pointing the crystal at the area that needs it, such as a body part, the earth, the sky, a point on a map of the world, etc. Use the Generator in life affirming and positve transitions, directing the energy for the highest good of all involved.

Golden Healers - A crystal that is partially or fully covered in a transpartent or golden mineral, ranging from a golden irridescence to a rusty orange color. True Golden Healers have color that does not rub off or flake off and are said to maximize the healing energies to attain healing on all levels.

Opaque Crystals - Also known as Feminie Crystals. Crystals that are clouded or have a whitish or milky appearance are not given enough creedance as the clear crystals, but yet they are one of the hardest working crystals there is. They are the secret keepers and have the key to unlocking hidden, invisible, and deep wisdom from within. These are the crystals of psychics and mystics and hold the mysteries of life. Connect with your Opaque Crystal by holding it close and breathing your gratitude -- I am thankful for the sight that you give me, the understanding that you share and for the knowledge that you impart, which I use for the purpose of the higher good. Double terminated Opaque, or milky crystals are known as Mythic Crystals and permit the travel between old and new, then and now to unravel history's mysteries.

Phantom Crystals - Phantom crystals are recognized by a faint outline of another crystal inside - as if the crystal stopped growing, then resumed its growth. The phantom might also appear to be white or colored materials within the crystal. These crystals are wonderful teachers of past life experiences, helping us to understand and gain deeper awareness of All That Is in relation to our past, present and future. Phantoms teach that death is nothing to be afraid of, but rather, a brief respite in our growth before we continue our journey.

Enchanted Crystals - Also known as Pixilated Crystals, these double terminated crystals harbor a rainbow inside along with a lot of faerie frost and have the ability to awaken our vision to all the other lifeforms who share the physical plane with us. Enchanted crystals show us the celebration of life and teach us to be touched, inspired and captivated by Mother Earth. Take your Enchanted Crystal to a natural place and wave it in the air in great arcs around you. Then, breathe deeply while you allow the beauty of nature to enter your being.

Quantum Crystals - A crystal with three or more double terminated crystals joined together is a Quantum Crystal, and a very powerful crystal indeed! Just as quantum physics teaches that reality is but a series of endless waves of probability, so does the Quantum Crystal teach that we can alter our reality. Work with a Quantum Crystal by holding it in your hand and breathing your petition, asking that at the ebb of the wave of probability your petition be granted. This is a very powerful tool to change your reality and make vast improvements in your world, used for the highest good.

Receiving Crystals - A Receiving Crystal has one broad, flat face and is considered an excellent tool for drawing and receiving energy. Healers use Receiving Crystals by placing the flat face of the crystal against the body's energy center or area to be healed by drawing out negativity. Holding a Receiving Crystal at any of the Chakras will help clear a negativity blockage by removing negative thoughts and energy. It is most often held in the left hand while a Projecting (Right Handed) Crystal is held simultaneously in the right hand so that the positve energy is drawn in while the negative energy is dispersed.

Record Keeper Crystals - Rare features of the Record Keep Crystals are small pyramid shaped markings on one or more of the facets. It is said that the ancient knowledge and secrets of the Universe can be psychically retrieved once one is attuend to a Record Keeper Crystal. An Exerpt From Melody's Love Is In The Earth describes it ... "They have been consciously and purposefully programmed by the beings who created the energies which have culminated in the actualization of life on this plane, and by their direct descendants [e.g., the Atlanteans and Lemurians]. Only those with open minds and pure hearts can access the information stored in the record keeper crystal."

Projecting Crystals - Also known as Right Handed Crystals, these crystals will have an extra facet on the right side of the largest facet of the crystal face. A Left Handed Crystal will have an extra facet of the left side of the largest facet on the crystal face. The Right Handed Crystal is projecting while the Left Handed Crystal is absorbent.

Rutilated Quartz Crystals - Rutilated Quartz Crystals are easy to spot because they contain a series of rutile striations or needles, in the crystal itself. These crystals are useful in promoting self-control, determination and will. If you have trouble making decisions, or perhaps are too easily lead by others, you will want to carry a Rutilated Quartz Crystal with you to give your strength of resolve and moral courage to stand up for your own truths.

Selene Crystals - Also known as Moon Crystals, will contain a rounded shape inside the crystal that resembles the moon in one of its different phases, half, three quarter, finger nail, and such. Moon Crystals are best programmed during the phase of the new moon by placing the crystal in direct moonlight where it will absorb the energies of hope, youth and new beginnings.. If you place a moon crystal in the light of the full moon, you will infuse your crystal with the energies of abundance, generosity, fulfillment, love and nurturance.

Twin Crystals - Also known as Soulmate Crystals, Twin Crystals are two crystals of the same size attached side by side. One may discover their soulmate by sleeping with a Twin Crystal each night and asking that your kindred spirit be found in this lifetime. Many say that if you speak your desire into the Twin Crystal, it will be heard by your soulmate and act as a guiding light to unite you.

Tabular Crystals - Tabbies are flattened crystals that enhance the power of communication, smooth energy flow and balance. They work hard to promote the positive exchange of energies between conscious beings. Tabbies work well with Law Enforcement Officers and those involved in dealing with the public. Public speakers would benefit by keeping a Tabuilar Crystal with them on engagements. This is the communicator crystal and helps bridge the gap between differing parties.

Twin Flame Crystals - Two crystals of similar size joined at the base forming a V shape are known as Twin Flame Crystals. This is the crystal of cooperation, union and fusion. They work to help us attract our spiritual partners, similarly to the Soul Mate Crystal, but those who will will work with as a companion or partner, a cosmic friend.

Wand Crystals - Any crystal that is at least 3.5 inches long or more is considered a Wand Crystal. Wand crystals are usually thicker and can be single terminated or double terminated. Wands harness the crystal's power and project it out and back to us like a boomerang. Never point a wand at someone with a negative thought or deed, because it will return to you magnified tenfold. Use your wand for the good of the whole and for the highest good. When you wave your wand around and proclaim a wish, you are working with very powerful energy. Use it to send out good, healing energy. Wands also are used for drawing an imaginary protective circle around you, your home, your car or whatever your wish to protect. When using your wand, move it in a clockwise (sunwise) direction and use this petition for protection: "I am protected by light. Only good will come to me. Only good will flow from me. Only good will be here. I am protected by light." You can substitute the word "I" with "My home" or "My space" or your desired area to be protected. When working with your petitions, focus on the positive, not on the negative. If you desire to remove negative energies, state loudly while using your wand that you are calling positive energy to you, rather than saying that you want to remove the negative. It is best to get in the habit of using only positive words, loving thoughts and affirmations. Speak your affirmations positively, such as "I affirm prosperity and abundance for myself and for all creation."
